Greetings! Today we will try to understand in an accessible language what a signaling system on a railway is. The distance of signaling, centralization and blocking - this is how the telegraph abbreviation ШЧ is revealed. This organization is a kind of “regulator” of train traffic. ShCh workers are called differently in their professional activities: special officers, ShCh mechanics, estsebists. But the most common name is shechenyata.

The movement of trains is similar to the movement of cars on city roads - overtaking is also carried out on the railway, and oncoming trains pass each other. Even the basic indications of traffic lights are similar. Red – “stop”, yellow – “attention”, green – “you can go”. Of course, there are specifics, but this is enough to understand. Compliance with traffic rules according to signals is one of the points of guaranteed safe train movement.

In order to understand how movement by rail is carried out, let's imagine a situation where 2 trains are traveling towards each other along a single-track section. I don’t think it’s worth explaining what it is to meet each other, but what a single-track section is may not be clear to everyone.

Imagine a forest road without any surface with a deep rut. So this is a single-track section of the railway, only the role of the track on the railway is performed by two rail threads. It is along this road that 2 huge and heavy trains are traveling towards each other.

It would seem, how can they separate when they meet? In order for trains to pass each other when there is oncoming traffic, or for a fast train to overtake a slower one, a kind of “forks” are arranged on the railway every 15-30 kilometers. They are called sidings and stations in railway terminology. At sidings and stations several tracks are laid. And the section of the railway between two neighboring stations or sidings is called a stretch.

Let's return to our two oncoming trains. Let's imagine that both of these trains are traveling to the same station from two different directions. One of the trains, which is the first to arrive at the station via a switch (analogous to a turn on a highway), arrives on one of the tracks and stops at a red traffic light. Having stopped, he waits for the oncoming train to pass by him on the adjacent track of this station. After the train, which passed by without stopping, has cleared the section, the stopped train gets a green traffic light and moves on. That's it, the trains have left. Difficult? But we considered the simplest case and did not delve into the subtleties.

What do ShCh employees do?

Let's return to our shechenyats. They are precisely responsible for the correct and reliable operation of almost all elements of the railway involved in the passage of oncoming trains: traffic lights, turnouts, and their automatic operation. Their work in railway transport is considered one of the most responsible, requiring highly trained workers, the ability to read electrical diagrams, and think logically.

JSC Russian Railways strives to introduce the latest developments of domestic and foreign industry into its activities; the railway workers themselves make adjustments to the design of the equipment used, adjusting them to local conditions. But no matter how you twist it, the equipment cannot be 100% reliable and failures in its operation occur. Quite often, ShCh equipment fails, but Shechens should not allow a situation in which their devices do not work or are malfunctioning. After all, if the traffic light turns green when it should be red, trains can run head-on into each other.

It is difficult to imagine how such a malfunction could turn out... That is why at any time of the day or night, in any weather, at any distance, a ShCh employee travels to fix it. Often, when going to a damage site, an escebist does not know what exactly has gone wrong, so he takes with him about 20-25 kg of tools and spare parts. Why do we measure tools and parts in kilograms? Yes, because almost always Shechens have to walk 5 kilometers or more with these tools and spare parts. With such “travels” it is no longer important what to carry, the main thing is the weight of the luggage.

Having arrived at the scene, the operator’s task is to quickly identify the faulty equipment and replace it - sometimes, due to a malfunction, neither freight nor passenger trains can travel. After eliminating the malfunction, the ShCh employee conducts a series of checks of the remaining equipment, reports on the elimination of the damage and is responsible for the passage of the first trains.

It is worth saying that the operation of HF devices is closely related to the devices of related services - railway workers, electricians, and signalmen. And due to their duty of service, escebists have to delve deeply into the operation of the devices of these services...

This is the fate of the signaling, centralization, and blocking distance workers. I hope you were able to delve a little into their work and determine for yourself the difficulty and responsibility of this service.

Best regards, Alexey Sergeevich.

There are many professions on the Russian railways, each of which is very necessary and important. In this article we will talk about the specialty of a railway worker, which is designed to ensure the safe movement of everything that can move on the railway. This is a “signaling electrical mechanic” who makes every effort to ensure that the train movement schedule does not go astray. We will consider in more detail where to get training in this specialty, what are the requirements for a person and what their functional responsibilities look like.

General information

Long gone are the days when railroad safety depended on people making hand signals. The technique of controlling semaphores and moving arrows manually has long been forgotten. Now all these operations are carried out thanks to special installations, for the operation of which an electromechanic is responsible. After all, they, like any equipment, require maintenance and break down from time to time. The abbreviation SCB stands for alarm, centralization and blocking. Signaling electrical mechanics service all these systems and monitor the technical condition of a number of interdependent devices: track circuits, traffic lights, switch drives.

The operation of all electrical devices of the electric train depends on it. Work in this specialty is not considered the easiest, sometimes even difficult, because signaling devices are installed not only in premises, but also on hauls, sorting humps, as they say, in an open field. They need to be serviced in summer and winter, regardless of the time of day and weather. The signaling staff consists of an electrician, an electromechanic and a senior electrician.

The requirements for a candidate for an electrical mechanic position are quite serious. Therefore, a person must have appropriate education and professional training. A person appointed to the position of an electrician must have a higher professional education and work experience as an electrician of the highest category for at least six months, or a secondary vocational (technical) education and work experience as an electrician of the highest category for at least 2 years.

A worker in this profession must know:

  • Fundamentals of electrical engineering and mechanics.
  • Electrical diagrams of cars, automatic blocking devices, electrical, control room, hump centralization, as well as methods for detecting and eliminating failures of serviced devices.
  • All the subtleties of modern alarms and technical equipment that is used for adjustment.
  • How to prevent train collisions in time, prevent derailments and other emergency situations.
  • The effect of hazardous and harmful production factors on humans.
  • Requirements and rules for electrical safety, fire safety and industrial sanitation.
  • Operating rules and instructions for Russian Railways.

In addition, a person holding this position must have the following personal qualities:

  • Ability to think logically;
  • Accuracy;
  • Attentiveness;
  • Lack of haste;
  • Punctuality;
  • Responsibility;
  • Endurance;
  • Hard work;
  • Sense of balance;
  • Excellent vision and hearing;
  • Physical training;

In the event of an emergency, he must be ready to make quick and thoughtful decisions. You have to work not only intensely, but also harmoniously, clearly, in a team: the electrical mechanic of the signaling system has electricians subordinate to him, and he himself is forbidden to go to the site without a partner, because the electrician works while trains are constantly moving. This profession is not suitable for people with an unstable psyche, insufficient level of concentration and intelligence.

To perform his job duties, an electrician uses measuring and testing electrical instruments (multimeters, ballast resistance meters, etc.), pliers, wrenches, sockets, socket and special wrenches, wire cutters, screwdrivers, side cutters and special templates.

Signaling electrical mechanics will soon become diagnosticians and analysts, because the country's railways are moving to the use of microprocessor systems and computers. New technologies will reduce labor costs for maintenance. Thus, the worker will not need to make a technological bypass of the area assigned to him. A signal about a device malfunction or its pre-failure state will be issued by the appropriate equipment.

The advantages of the profession: stable and good wages, opportunity for career growth, work on schedule and free travel. The disadvantages of working as an electrician include: the work is associated with risks to health and life, extreme working conditions and uneven working hours are possible.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, condition check and routine repair of ATDP devices, track circuits, traffic lights, switch drives in relay stations, tunnels, and open sections of lines.

  • Electrical and cable work (laying cables, cutting them, wiring them to contacts).
  • Maintenance of technical documentation for serviced signaling devices.
  • Master and use best practices for device maintenance.
  • Carrying out work according to established plans and schedules.
  • High-quality preparation of devices in a designated area during the winter.
  • Other duties in accordance with the job description.

In accordance with the assigned tasks, the ShCh performs the following functions:

Repair, routine maintenance and technical maintenance of structures, devices, machines, mechanisms, equipment, technical and transport vehicles with regulatory documents of NC KTZ JSC;

Carrying out work to prevent accidents in emergency situations;

Implementation of organizational and technical measures to improve the safety of train traffic, the reliability of signaling devices and bringing them to the requirements of regulatory and legal acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan and JSC NC KTZ;

Storage of fuels and lubricants, etc.

In addition to the main operational activities (directly

related to the organization of the transportation process), the Shch can carry out auxiliary activities. For example: manufacturing of floor equipment for track circuits; sale of old year's

equipment and materials (from relay cabinets); production of certain types of materials and products; production and sale of consumer goods

The basis for building the production structure of any enterprise is the scientifically based division and cooperation of labor. To determine the interdependence of the stages and links of production, as well as individual performers among themselves, a clear division of responsibility for individual areas of production, an organizational structure for distance management is built, which largely depends on its size and technical equipment.

For each signaling distance group, a standard organizational structure is developed, which can be modified depending on local conditions. Organizational structure is the basis of distance management. Responsibilities for managing the distance must be strictly distributed between the head of the distance, his deputy and the chief engineer.

    ATM device maintenance technology

The important role of automation devices in ensuring the safety of train traffic required the creation of a special organized system for ensuring reliability and managing the quality of technical maintenance of devices.

In the signaling and communication distance, recording is organized not only of failures, but also of malfunctions identified during device audits. Methods for recording and systematizing failures and malfunctions have been developed.

The most important part of the system is the development of a program of basic preventive maintenance to improve reliability. Technological process operations constitute the first or main program of work for electromechanics. However, devices are subject to interference from which protection is required. Therefore, along with the first program, a second program is being developed - a long-term plan for increasing reliability, both for the distance as a whole and for its individual sections. As a rule, not all activities of this plan can be completed in one year. Therefore, the most important ones are selected from it and included in the annual reliability improvement plan, which is the source document for the performers of the second program. Thus, electromechanics perform two groups of work:

regulatory - according to technological process schedules;

additional - according to annual reliability improvement plans;

The maintenance and repair of signaling devices is carried out according to schedules with the frequency established by the Instruction TsSh-720.

Schedules are drawn up by a senior electrician, agreed upon with the head of the production site and approved by the head of the signaling and communication distance or his deputy. Checking and peri-approval of schedules is carried out once a year as of January 1.

For each workshop (team) of a senior electrician or railway station, annual and four-week schedules for the maintenance of signaling devices are drawn up and approved. Work included in the schedule is planned in such a way that the time intervals between the same works are equal and not exceeded the established frequency, and work technologically related to each other was carried out simultaneously.

The four-week schedule includes work that is performed at intervals of one month, four weeks or more, and the annual schedule includes work that is performed less than once a month.

The centralization and blocking signaling distance manager daily monitors the implementation of plans and schedules according to the reports of senior electromechanics or electromechanics.
