How to get there

Story

Today's capital of Ras Al Khaimah was originally called Qawasim, after the tribe that originally founded the emirate. Qawasim made his living from piracy and used the beautiful harbor as an important base for attacking merchant ships. Kawashim managed to control large areas of the Persian Gulf at the height of his power.
However, when the actions of the Kawashima pirates disrupted British maritime trade with Oman and resulted in trade losses, the British naval power attacked the emirate in 1819 and captured it. Qawasim was forced to prohibit the use of other seagoing vessels in an 1820 treaty with Britain and gave the British a protectorate over the southern coast of the Persian Gulf.
Gaining independence from Britain, Ras al Khaimah joined the other emirates in 1971. This happened thanks to Sheikh Saqr ibn Mohammed al-Qasimi. After his death on October 27, 2010, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al-Qasimi became the new ruler.

In recent years, thermal springs have become more accessible to tourists and visitors. Hutt Springs Resort, which can be seen from afar thanks to its fortified fort architecture, offers the opportunity to bathe in the springs in a unique atmosphere. The village of Hatta itself is still characterized by relative tranquility and a traditional atmosphere, which is what travelers appreciate.
The fact that the Hutt region has fertile soil and accessible fresh water led to the first settlements appearing here in ancient times. Finds in this region suggest that people lived here as early as 3200 BC.
From the recent past, especially from the 19th and 20th centuries, Hatta has some defense structures, defense towers and ancient mosques remaining, which can be found throughout the village and its surroundings. There are forts on the hills that were once meant to protect the valuable springs and surrounding countryside. Local tribes fought again and again for Hatta's precious springs and fertile lands.
Not far from the defensive towers there are usually old mosques and stone houses. The old irrigation systems that can still be seen today are very impressive. Don't miss the opportunity to climb the hill, which is located in the south of the village and is equipped with watchtowers, between which there is an old mosque, a cemetery and various residential buildings.
One of the largest defense towers is also located in close proximity to the Hutt Springs Hotel. Although it has not yet been restored, you can get a good idea of ​​how life was lived here.
The village of Hatta is approximately 25 kilometers from the city of Ras al-Khaimah in a south-easterly direction, the access road to it is marked.

Old city

The old quarter is located on a narrow strip of land between the Persian Gulf and the lagoons, which are traditionally called "Khor" or "Creek". In Ras Al Khaimah's Old Town, which was previously a protected city wall and fortress, you can see many old houses built in the traditional style using coral stone. How long these houses will last is unknown as most of the buildings are in a deplorable state.
Particularly interesting for visitors to the Old City are Sheikh Mohammad bin Salim Road and Sidroh Street, where there is a picturesque bazaar.
The oldest building in the Old City is Al-Hisn Fort. The building, which has survived various events of the past, was built during the Persian occupation in 1736-1749. From that time, however, only the square tower remains, which lies to the left of the entrance and which was destroyed by the British in 1819. The fort served as a residence for the ruling Al Qasimi family since 1948, but in 1960, Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi moved his residence to the new palace.
Al Hisn Fort is an excellent example of the traditional combination of residential buildings and defense structures. Today, the interior of the complex can also be visited, as the National Museum is located there.
If you head northeast from the National Museum, you will find yourself in the oldest residential area of ​​Ras Al Khaimah. This part of the city has been the pulsating center of the city's social life for centuries. The most important inhabitants, especially the wealthy pearl merchants and powerful sheikhs, built their homes along the coast. Even if the rich decorations, courtyards, and terraces have been partially preserved, they still represent only a hint of their former splendor. The dwellings were built in the typical style of Arab coastal cities from a mixture of clay and coral, which made them very different from buildings built from mud bricks.

Unfortunately, the narrow streets and alleys, magnificent buildings and special atmosphere that once reigned in the Old Town exist today only in impressive descriptions that evoke longing for days gone by.
Since the 1970s, when rich oil deposits were discovered in the emirate, the city of Ras Al Khaimah has changed dramatically. Since then, new and modern buildings have been built, so many former residents of the old quarter have left their old homeland and moved to other parts of the Emirate. With the advent of the new era, the old city center lost the prestige and importance it once had.
A few years ago, however, thinking changed and the value and importance of these old houses and buildings is increasingly being recognised. The government has already instructed archaeologists to show that these buildings have great historical value. Once they are renovated, they will become both a tourist and historical attraction.

The city of Ras al-Khaimah is the administrative center of the northernmost emirate, the sixth largest settlement in the UAE. The resort is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf. The distance from Ras Al Khaimah to Abu Dhabi is 250 km, to Dubai - 113 km, to Sharjah - 92 km, to Umm Al Quwain - 63 km, to Fujairah - 113 km, to Al Ain - 234 km .

The city is divided into two parts by the bay. The main attractions are in the old city, in the west of Ras al Khaimah. Historians claim that in the places where Ras al-Khaimah is located, Armenians who fled from the Mongol invasion once settled.

Their settlement was called Julfa. The modern name (locals shorten it to RAK) translated means “top of the tent.” This, apparently, is a hint of the gentle mountains that surround the city.

The beginning of spring is the time when the beaches are filled with vacationers again. The weather will not be too hot for another two and a half months, and this time can be devoted to lazy lying on the soft sand and swimming in the sea, warm as fresh milk.

Weather and climate

The climate of Ras al-Khaimah is as hot as in other emirates, except that the air temperature may be 1-2°C lower. Summer here is too hot, but autumn, winter and spring are perfect for a beach holiday with a child.

In October the temperature stays at +28-29°C, in November +25-27°C. At the same time, during the day the thermometer can rise to +30-34°C. It is advisable to come to Ras al-Khaimah with a baby at the end of autumn, when the heat subsides.

Winter in the city is mild, with warm weather. This is the only time of the year when it rains occasionally. The daytime temperature in December is +26°C, in January-February +24°C. If you are planning a vacation in Ras al-Khaimah at this time, be sure to take warm clothes: at dusk the temperature drops to +13-15°C.

With the arrival of spring, temperatures rise again. Already in March the air warms up to +27-28°C, by April the air temperature will rise to +32°C, which means that all the conditions are in place for the best holiday in Ras al-Khaimah with children. With the arrival of autumn, the sea hardly cools down: the water temperature is +32°C in September, +31°C in October and +28°C in November.

Nutrition

The choice of where to stay in Ras Al Khaimah may well be influenced by the hotel's food concept. For many, a big plus of this resort is its widespread use of the all-inclusive system. At the same time, lunches and dinners outside the hotel restaurant will not be a risky event: there are many good catering establishments in the city.

Since there is no public transport in Ras Al Khaimah, taxis are in particular demand. There are several taxi services at the resort, but none of them install meters in their cars, so the price will have to be negotiated. Getting around Ras Al Khaimah is relatively inexpensive, around 10 AED. But moving between cities will cost 130-200 AED, depending on the distance.

To be fair, it must be said that even in large cities of the UAE, tourists practically do not use public transport, preferring to take a taxi or rent a car.
