The number of historical and architectural monuments in it is so great that on almost every street you can find buildings or statues that have their own centuries-old history. It is rightfully one of the three largest and most ancient temples on earth, and some of its buildings have still retained their original appearance. The beginning of its construction dates back to 1401. In addition to its impressive dimensions, the cathedral amazes visitors with the luxury of its decoration. Its interior is a mixture of different styles that harmoniously complement each other. It contains carvings made in the Gothic style, icons, paintings by Roelas, Morales, Leal, Murillo and other famous artists, copper coins, jewelry, Plateresque grilles and other works of art.

You can enter the temple through one of nine gates, through which you enter spacious halls. In one of them, the attention of visitors is attracted by a tabernacle made by the master Arfe, who called it his best work. Also noteworthy are the stained glass windows, on which various famous artists worked for a long time. But, of course, the main attraction of the cathedral is the remains of Christopher Columbus, preserved to this day, placed in a coffin, which is held on the shoulders of four stone giants.

In addition, the temple contains the burial places of Cardinal Cervantes, Doña Maria de Padilla, Alfonso the Wise and Pedro the Cruel. But at the foot of the patroness of the city of Seville, Our Lady de los Reyes, you can see the body of Saint Fernando III untouched by decomposition. The largest number of visitors gather at the Cathedral during Holy Week and on the day of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. But in April, an annual fair opens in front of its entrance, where you can buy all kinds of handicrafts, as well as watch or even take part in the carnival.

Seville Cathedral opens its doors to visitors as early as 11.00, so if you want to see the sights of the city before noon, this place can become the next point on your tourist route. Those who prefer to pay attention to excursions in the evening should remember that the cathedral closes at 17.00.

Despite the fact that this building is part of the Cathedral, it stands out as a separate landmark of Seville. The Giralda, originally founded as a minaret, later became the temple's bell tower, which is still in use today. But it attracts tourists mainly as an observation deck located at an altitude of 80 meters. You can climb it along a gentle ramp, built so that horse riders can easily get into the tower, from which the entire panorama of the city opens. The roof of the bell tower is decorated with a figurine of an angel, which rotates during strong gusts of wind.

The next famous symbol of Seville is the Golden Tower. Its construction began back in 1090. At that time, it was part of a defensive wall that surrounded the city on all sides. But as the borders expanded, the residents themselves began to destroy the wall, and only the famous tower has survived to this day. No one can say for sure about the origin of its name, but there is a hypothesis that the building received it thanks to its white brick finish, which seemed golden in the light of the sun. But scientists are more inclined to believe that the Golden Tower got its name at a time when it was used as a storage facility for banknotes and jewelry that made up the city’s treasury. Currently, this building serves as a repository for the funds of the naval museum.

It’s worth warning right away that it will take a whole day to explore this attraction. From October to March inclusive it is open to visitors from 9.30 to 17.00. But from April to September - from 9.30 to 19.00. It is worth mentioning that on Mondays at certain times you can enter the palace for free. But on other days you need to come here early in the morning to get tickets, which cost 9.50 €.

The Alcazar Palace is located in the center of Seville and is a monumental structure in which various architectural styles and trends are harmoniously intertwined. You can get into it through the Lion Gate, which got its name due to the coat of arms with the image of a lion located on it. The gate is decorated with ceramic masonry of a bright scarlet color, which immediately stands out against the background of the light walls.

The center is the Palace of Pedro I, the Throne Room of which is crowned with a gilded vault, decorated with an unusual ornament made of wood and symbolizing the infinity of the universe. Just below you can see a frieze with portraits of Spanish monarchs.

Next to the Palace of Pedro I, there is a building that was the residence of Charles V, made in the Gothic style and decorated with ceramic mosaics. The Alcazar Palace also has a room called the Maiden's Patio, which is famous for its exquisite interior, decorated with friezes, tiles and stucco, distinguished by particular elegance and sophistication. The feeling of luxury is complemented by the gardens, which contain many fountains, gazebos for relaxation and lawns, along which, as many centuries ago, royal peacocks stroll. The garden is filled with the fragrance of all kinds of flowers, orange and other exotic trees, which are carefully trimmed and formed into the correct ensembles.

Now the Alcazar Palace is officially considered the residence of the Queen of Spain. It will take more than one day to fully describe this architectural structure, so it’s better to see it for yourself once and form your own opinion about its magnificence.

It is impossible to visit Seville without visiting Plaza de España. Despite its modest size (its diameter is only 200 meters), it attracts tourists with such attractions as:

1. An unusual palace of a semicircular shape, covering the area from almost all sides.

2. A luxurious fountain located in the very center of the square, with beautiful “mirror” jets.

3. But for fans of the movie “Star Wars” it is a cult place, since some scenes were filmed here.

An interesting feature of Plaza de España is the fact that here the pigeons are not at all afraid of people and eat food directly from their hands.

The square is surrounded by a canal where boat trips can be taken for a reasonable fee.

Tourists who visit Seville for the first time are warned by their guides that they should not buy souvenirs from random merchants in the Square, as they are much cheaper in stores.

When you are tired after excursions and walks, you can have a snack in one of the local restaurants. On average, lunch will cost 15–20 euros, and a cup of cappuccino will cost 1.5–2 euros.

An unusual design of fantastic shapes is located in Seville on the Plaza de la Encarnacion, attracting all visitors with its unusual appearance. Crowds of tourists come to the futuristic building to take a closer look at it, go inside and make sure that there are halls and corridors, like in ordinary buildings. Looking from the outside at the huge lattice “wings” open over the square, it’s hard to believe that they are made of wood (Finnish birch). Indeed, the Metropol today is the largest and most original wooden structure in the world, amazing in size and unusual configuration.

The history of its origin is interesting: until 2009, there was a city market on this site, during the demolition of which the remains of buildings from the Roman era were discovered as a valuable historical monument. To preserve it, the authorities established a competition to create a design for a structure that would house the ancient ruins. The winner was the project of the German architect Mayer-Hermann, who received a prestigious award in the field of architecture after the completion of construction. In fact, Metropol Parasol is a gigantic complex consisting of individual structures that resemble huge umbrellas mounted on massive columns connected to each other. The total height of the four-tier structure is 26 m, length is 150 m, width is 70 m.

The Archaeological Museum is located in the underground premises, where majestic ruins appear to the eyes of those present; the ground floor is occupied by the Central Market; the roof of the 1st level is presented in the form of an open concert venue; on the 2nd and 3rd levels there are terraces, from where guests admire the beautiful panorama of the city and the bizarre curves of the Parasol itself.

Address: Seville, pl. de la Encarnacion, 18.

The terraces are open to the public: Friday, Saturday – 10.30 – 00.45; rest days – 10.30-23.45. Ticket price – 3 Є

The museum is open: every day, except Sunday – 10.00 – 20.00; Sun – 10.00 – 14.00. Ticket price – 2 Є.

It is rare that a country, and even more so a city, can boast of such a unique treasure as an invaluable collection of documents reflecting the course of history and development of Seville and Spain as a whole. There is evidence here of the activities of such great Spaniards as Cervantes (his official request) and Christopher Columbus (the discoverer's maritime journal); city plans, Magellan's first maps, original manuscripts of philosophers and writers.

From the archive materials you can learn the most accurate information about the conquistadors and their participation in the conquest of America, the role of Spain in the fate of the Philippines and many other historical facts. The pages of rare documents reveal the true past of the city and state, which is why the archive is a favorite place for ethnographers, historians and politicians. Now on the shelves of the Indies archive (the total length is almost 9 km) there are 43 thousand volumes of true rarities - they have something to work with. Researchers studying documents must obtain special permission.

Tourists are also interested in this object, the contents of which connect eras and centuries. Its history began in 1572, when King Philip II commissioned the local architect de Herrera to develop a building project for the guild of Seville merchants. Construction began 7 years later and lasted 14 years until 1598, and interior decoration began already in the 17th century. The majestic archive building, built in the Renaissance style, is an undoubted masterpiece of architecture and a historical monument. The interiors are just as majestic and monumental. Restorations have been carried out here several times, aimed at preserving the unique cultural and historical site.

Address: Edifico de Lonja Av, de la Constitucion, 3.

Open: Mon.-Fri., 08.00-15.00. Entry is free.

The Seville Town Hall is not just an administrative building, but an ancient architectural monument that catches the eye with its chic appearance and elegant beauty of design. The Town Hall is unique in that since its construction (1527) as the seat of city authorities, it has never changed its status. The reason for its construction was the royal wedding of the ruler of Castile, Charles, and the Portuguese princess Isabella. For the building they chose the purely Spanish “Plateresque” style - one of the types of Renaissance, the characteristic features of which are the decoration of the facades with patterns of the finest carvings, similar to openwork lace.

Almost the entire structure has been preserved in its original form, except that in the 19th century. They added another main entrance (now it is the central one), where features of a new classical style appeared. To see the beautiful “Plateresque” details, you need to walk around the building and admire the unfading beauty of the ancient design, grotesque sculptures, and heraldic symbols of the city. The new front entrance faces Nueva Square, and the old one faces Nueva Square. de San Francisco. The exterior of the Town Hall can be viewed at any time, but an internal tour is only possible when accompanied by a guide as part of a tourist group (at least 45 people). To get into it, you should purchase a ticket in advance on the Seville administration website.

Open for visits: Monday-Thursday, Saturday - the time depends on the work of the administration.

Entrance price – 4 Є.

The monumental rectangular structure, with intricate towers at the corners, is essentially an architectural complex, with a beautiful old garden, a labyrinth of topiaries and benches for relaxation. It has a long history, dating back to the distant 16th century, when a wealthy Seville nobleman bequeathed to build a large hospital for the poor at his expense. The will was faithfully executed, and the result was a substantial building in the Renaissance style, with 10 courtyards. The central facade, decorated with original stucco ornaments, makes the ordinary hospital building a real architectural masterpiece.

The local ancient baroque church, with many decorations made by artistic carvings, deserves special attention. For many years the hospital treated the poor and soldiers free of charge; nuns from local monasteries acted as nurses. The noble work of restoring health continued until 1972, after which the complex was empty for almost 20 years. Deciding that it was unforgivable to leave such a capital structure abandoned, local authorities began its restoration, and in 1992 the Andalusian Parliament was housed in a renovated, landscaped building. The 5 Sacred Wounds Hospital is an interesting tourist site.

Address: Seville, Calle Parlamento.

Open for excursions: June-September, 2 times a week, times depend on parliamentary sessions.

Entry is free. By appointment.

Palace of San Telmo

It is impossible not to pay attention to this long terracotta building with many windows and elaborate details - it catches your eye with a style that is not entirely characteristic of Spain - an intricate ultra-baroque in the Mexican spirit. In 1754, upon completion of construction, a naval school was first located here, a century later - a university, then a seminary. Currently, it houses the regional administration of Andalusia. The authorities sought to preserve the historical appearance of the unique building, and after reconstruction it appeared in its original form.

The design elements of the central facade and entrance are true works of art: 6 elaborate columns are crowned with magnificent figures of Atlanteans, serving as the support of a carved balcony with 12 graceful female statues - symbols of marine sciences. On top are sculptures of 3 patron saints of Seville, including Telmo, the patron saint of sailors. Along the balustrade there are 12 sculptural statues of the great citizens of Seville. The local church with a large number of sculptures, magnificent decorations and rich decoration is also a masterpiece of ultra-baroque.

Address: st. Avenida de Roma, 21.

Open for inspection: Monday-Thursday, 09.00-19.00, Friday, 09.00-15.00.

Entry is free.

A truly beautiful picturesque corner of Seville is its main park, founded in the 20s of the last century during the preparation period. Ibero-American Industrial Exhibition. It was named in honor of Queen Marie-Louise, who gave the city a plot of land on which the gardens of St. Telmo, and then they set up a park. And now 2 pavilions of that time have been preserved, on the territory of which the Museum of Folk Arts and Crafts and the Archaeological Museum are located, exhibiting a huge number of interesting objects.

Among the beautiful lawns, ponds, and cozy alleys there are monumental monuments to famous Spaniards. Wonderful rose gardens, flower beds, unique fountains, blooming orange trees, oleanders, pyramidal cypresses make the park an irresistibly beautiful place. Its landscapes intertwine Moorish, Renaissance and Gothic motifs, creating amazing landscape paintings that are definitely worth seeing.

Address: Av de Maria Luisa, s/n, 41013, Seville, free entry.

The Church of San Luigi is a magnificent example of Seville Baroque architecture, built for the monks of the Jesuit Order. It was built over the course of a century, but it did not serve the Order for long. Now the building in the shape of a Greek cross, with a facade colonnade, with 2 octagonal towers of an unusual shape, is a museum. Famous architects, sculptors and artists of Spain at one time worked on the interior and exterior design of the church. Here, every item, every decoration is a genuine work of ultra-baroque art.
