Vladimir Motorin himself was ill that day and therefore cocked a couple of times, but could not refuse to participate in this event that was significant to him.

Story

The Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which exists today, is an inaccurate copy of the 19th century cathedral, destroyed in 1931. The first cathedral began to be built back in 1817 according to the design of Karl Witberg, on the Sparrow Hills. In its original form, the temple existed until 1931. Until the Soviet government, at its next meeting, decided to demolish the building and build the Palace of Soviets in its place.

It was decided to recreate it again in 1988. The initiator was a public group of believers who created a petition - it was signed by hundreds of thousands of people. Many donated money for restoration. Construction of the new cathedral began in 1990 and lasted until 1999.
