In the southwestern part of Vietnam, in the Gulf of Thailand, is the quiet, picturesque island of Phu Quoc. The official name of the airport in Phu Quoc is Duong Dong or Cảng hàng không quốc tế Phú Quốc or Phu Quoc International Airport.

A little history
Back in 1930, when Phu Quoc was part of the French colony, the first small airfield was built on the island. During the Vietnam War, the Americans significantly expanded its territory. After the end of hostilities, the airport was rebuilt several times, but the largest reconstruction was completed in 2012.
Now it is a new modern air hub serving both domestic and international flights.
General information
Phu Quoc Island Airport (Vietnam) covers an area of 900 hectares, has one 3-kilometer runway, one passenger terminal and is capable of receiving light and medium-class aircraft. Capacity – up to 7 million guests annually.
Flights are predominantly charter, especially during the high season. There are regular flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. 4 flights are planned per day to Ho Chi Minh City, on weekends and holidays - up to 10-15 flights daily.

Arrival
The plane lands in an area surrounded by wooded hills. A bus will meet you at the ramp and take you to the arrivals area. You will have to stay here for 10-20 minutes while local workers unload your luggage.
To avoid wasting time, use an ATM. There are not many of them on the island.
Have you received your luggage? Now go out! All that's left is to get to the hotel. The distance from Fukuoka airport to the main hotels is short; you can cover it by transport in just 15-20 minutes.
You have 3 options:
1. Organized transfer
If you are traveling on a tour package, you will most likely be met by a transfer from your hotel.
You can take a taxi at the airport. In Vietnam, there are usually 2 types of taxis: regular car and motorcycle taxi. The second option is cheaper, but inconvenient if you have large luggage.
3. Transport rental
It is more interesting to travel around Fukuoka with your own transport, be it a car, a motorbike or a bicycle. All this can be rented on site.
If you are not in a hurry or, after finishing your vacation, are waiting for your return flight, you can have a pleasant time at the airport.
Airport overview
The inside of the terminal is clean and cool. The air conditioners work, but you won’t feel the cold, everything is in moderation.
If you take the time to go up to the observation deck, you will be treated to a wonderful view of the runway and picturesque surroundings.
There are many cafes and restaurants in the waiting room where you can eat inexpensively. Boutiques, grocery stores and souvenir kiosks offer low prices. Surprisingly, even the famous Vietnamese pearls are quite affordable here. Tourists who did not get to the pearl farm actively buy pearl products while waiting for the plane.

Waiting for a flight
They while away the time before the flight departs in the spacious lounges. They are divided into a lounge for economy class passengers, and a comfortable waiting lounge with soft chairs, showers and sleeping rooms (for an additional fee). To access the first class lounges, you need to buy a pass at the entrance or use a special membership program. Please note the opening hours.
It is not customary to spend the night in waiting rooms here. Nearby hotels offer their services for this purpose. You rent a room for one night, a transfer is provided, they will take you both ways for free or for little money. It's a short drive - 10 minutes one way.

The Phu Quoc - Ho Chi Minh City route by bus is too long. And plane tickets cost almost the same as bus tickets. Plus, you don't have to take a ferry. You can get there by air in less than 1 hour.
Phu Quoc Island Airport
Since 2012, the airport has become modern and completely transformed. But nevertheless, construction work is still going on in some parts, like everywhere else in Fukuoka. We thought that for an island, albeit such a large one, the airport would be more modest. Reserve for the future.
The airport has one passenger terminal. Everywhere is clean, air conditioning is working, but there is no piercing cold, as is usually the case at Asian airports, so you don’t have to wear warm clothes.
Where to eat
There are many cafes and even McDuck. I wonder why it is at the airport, but not on the island itself. Prices are low by airport standards, almost no different from cafes in the beach area. These are not Moscow airports, where they sell sandwiches for 500 rubles
Pearls even at the airport
Phu Quoc wouldn't be Phu Quoc if it didn't even have its own pearl boutique at the airport. While we were waiting for the flight, we watched this store. The girls are busy at work and they buy their products very willingly. If you didn’t have time to buy pearls at a pearl farm, then there will still be an opportunity to buy them while waiting for your plane.

Waiting hall
After checking your luggage in the waiting room, you can relax on soft chairs and await your flight. In addition to pearls, there is a souvenir shop and a couple of grocery stores. The prices are practically not inflated, which is good news. Our flight was delayed by 30 minutes, but the flight went smoothly.
How to get to/from Fukuoka Airport
You can get to the airport or get to the beach from here by taxi. Taxis in Vietnam are very cheap. The cost of the trip depends on the size of the car. If you want the cheapest taxi, choose small cars like Daewoo Matiz. Here are approximate prices:
PS: I don’t know for sure, but perhaps there are minibuses at the airport that take tourists to hotels, like minibuses. We took such a minibus from the sea station for $2 per person. It will be cheaper than taking a taxi if you need to go to Bai Sao or Duong Dong. If anyone has up-to-date information about buses, write in the comments.

How to get from Russia to Fukuoka airport?
The easiest way to get from Russia is by charter flight. Travel agencies organize them not only from Moscow, but also from other large cities, for example, from Yekaterinburg or Novosibirsk. True, direct flights to Phu Quoc island are only available during the season and only on certain days. In addition, you will have to buy a ready-made tour from an agency, which can be quite expensive.
If you like to travel independently, you can get there by regular flights. But know that there are no direct flights from Russia to Phu Quoc. Although there are two paths with one connection:
- in Ho Chi Minh City,
- in Hanoi.
The fastest way to get to Phu Quoc airport is by the first option. First you will fly from Moscow to Ho Chi Minh City (about 9.5 hours), and then to Phu Quoc (about an hour). You can also choose the route through Hanoi. A direct flight from Moscow to the capital of Vietnam will take approximately 9 hours, and then you will need to fly for 2 hours to Phu Quoc.

If you haven't thought about this in advance, you can always take a taxi at the airport exit. In Vietnam, taxis are not only car, but also motorcycle! And if you have little luggage, you can save money by hiring a bike driver. However, a regular taxi will not be too expensive: about 5 dollars (the exact price depends on the distance to the hotel).

What can you take on a plane?
Carry-on luggage is the items you will take with you into the cabin. The weight limit for hand luggage can vary from 5 to 10 kg, and its size most often should not exceed the sum of three dimensions (length, width and height) from 115 to 203 cm (depending on the airline). A handbag is not considered hand luggage and is carried freely.
The bag you take with you on the plane should not contain knives, scissors, medicines, aerosols, or cosmetics. Alcohol from duty free stores can only be transported in sealed bags.
How to pay for luggage at the airport
If the weight of luggage exceeds the standards established by the airline (most often 20-23 kg), you need to pay for each kilogram of excess. In addition, many Russian and foreign airlines, as well as low-cost airlines, have tariffs that do not include free baggage allowance and must be paid separately as an additional service.
In this case, luggage must be checked in at the airport at a separate Drop-off check-in counter. If you are unable to print your boarding pass, you can obtain one at the airline's regular check-in counter, and check-in and check-in your luggage there.
