HISTORY OF THE CITY NAME

Netanya was founded in 1929 by immigrants from Eastern Europe as an agricultural settlement and has long been a center of citrus growing.

The history associated with the name of the city is quite interesting. In the summer of 1928, a delegation from Palestine arrived in America to the famous Zionist figure and philanthropist Nathan Strauss with a very unusual proposal.

The arrivals offered Nathan Strauss to donate a certain amount for the construction of a new city, which they intend to found on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. In return, they promised to name the city in his honor, regardless of what decision he made, because his contribution to the development of the Zionist movement was already quite significant.

Nathan Strauss, who was not prone to sentimentality, refused their request to those who arrived. And the petitioners, having accepted the refusal with dignity, kept their word, founding a city on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and calling it Netanya in honor of Nathan Strauss.

NETANYA TODAY

Today, Netanya is a fairly large city by Israeli standards, with a population exceeding 200 thousand people. The city is a processing center for the diamond industry, as well as the largest base for the cultivation of citrus crops. A significant part of the city's residents are employed in the tourism and hotel business.

For vacationers in the city there are more than a dozen hotels, nine public beaches, tourist offices, many shops, coastal bars, cafes and restaurants. The main tourist life is concentrated in the area of Netanya's main city square - Independence Square.

Hotel staff in the city, like most residents of Netanya, speak excellent Russian. Therefore, tourists who do not speak English find it very comfortable to relax here. The mild climate, clean beaches and affordable prices attract not only guests of the country, but the Israelis themselves to Netanya.

ATTRACTIONS OF NETANYA

Memorial complex in honor of the victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany. Against the background of negative political events associated with the dismantling of monuments to Red Army soldiers in a number of former Soviet republics and countries of the former socialist camp, any Russian citizen will be pleased to realize that in Israel the feat of the Soviet soldier in World War II is honored and remembered.

The opening of the monument on the Mediterranean coast in Netanya took place in June 2012 on the initiative of the prime ministers of the two states of Israel (Benyamin Netanyahu) and Russia (Vladimir Putin).

Memorial complex in honor of the victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany

The monument consists of two parts. The first is a black labyrinth with bronze bas-reliefs depicting the events of the Holocaust and the victory of the Red Army, which saved the Jews from extermination. On the right, the bas-reliefs depict the Catastrophe of European Jewry, on the left - the main battles of the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War, starting from June 22, 1941 until its end on May 9, 1945.

The second element of the monument is two large white wings, symbolizing hope, victory and memory.

According to the creators of the monument, the way out of the dark labyrinth to light and wings is the path from darkness and war to hope and peace, connecting the victory of the Red Army with the end of the Holocaust and the subsequent creation of the Jewish state.

It was not by chance that Netanya was chosen as the location for the monument, because a third of its citizens come from the former USSR.

Entrance to the territory is free.

If you have free time, you can visit museums and cultural centers, of which there are plenty in Netanya:

♦ Museum of Nature, Archeology and Art
♦ Museum “Pearl of the Tribes of Israel”
♦ Museum of the Jewish Legion
♦ Center for Yemeni Folklore
♦ Municipal Gallery

Entrance to all museums is paid. If you wish, you can take an audio guide in Russian.

For those traveling by car, it is possible to visit two very interesting routes located near Netanya: Utopia Park and Alexander Creek (Nahal Alexander).

"Park Utopia"- an ideal world of orchids and nature. It is located in Kibbutz Bahan, 20 kilometers from Netanya. Here, in the heart of the Sharon Valley, you can admire the tropical rain forest, rare orchids brought from all over the world, carnivorous and other plants, as well as many living areas with butterflies, fish, parrots, peacocks and other animals.

"Park Utopia" - an ideal world of orchids and nature

Cost of visiting: adults – 59 shekels; children aged 2 to 12 years – 44 shekels; children under 2 years old – free.

Alexander Creek- a unique natural reserve of soft-bodied turtles. It is located next to Kibbutz Kfar Vitkin, 12 kilometers from Netanya.

Alexander Creek (Nahal Alexander) - originates in the mountains of Samaria, where two more streams flow into it, as a result, it reaches its most popular place as a small river, which then flows into the Mediterranean Sea.

The soft-bodied turtles that live in the stream are the largest mammals living in Israel after crocodiles. Each winter, turtles hibernate, and in the spring they lay eggs, from which newborn turtles emerge a couple of months later.

The number of turtles living in the stream is about 100 individuals. An adult turtle can weigh 50 kilograms and reach a length of 1 meter.

Alexander Creek - a unique natural reserve for softshell turtles

In addition to turtles, Alexander Creek is home to ducks, otters and mongooses. The stream is a favorite vacation spot for residents of Netanya and other nearby cities (Caesarea and Hadera).

The place itself is well-appointed, with plenty of picnic tables, exercise equipment, and playgrounds. Surrounded by an avocado plantation owned by Kibbutz Kfar Vitkin. But the main interest is, of course, turtles. Entrance to the territory is free.

The largest resort town in the Mediterranean in Israel, Netanya stretches along the coast and, with a beach area of 13.5 kilometers, is ahead of all other areas of the country.

Each Israeli city usually specializes in a specific industrial sector or agriculture. In this case, speaking about Netanya, we note it as the largest center of the diamond industry. The city is also a significant citrus growing base.

City `s history

In mid-February 1929, immigrants from Eastern Europe founded a moshav, an agricultural settlement, in the Holy Land. The city owes its name to the American humanist, philanthropist and industrialist Nathan Schraus, who donated most of his income to healthcare, libraries and the needs of the Zionist movement. Strauss also allocated a considerable sum of money for the development of the new moshav, to which he left as a legacy, including his name.

Decades have passed, today the thriving city of Netanya opens up to guests with high-rise buildings and shopping centers, cozy small cafes and many fountains, elegant walking areas and restaurants. Happy holidays and open-air folk festivals take place here; young people spend their evenings in discos, clubs and bars. Hotels of various categories, marked on the map of the city of Netanya, will provide you with an overnight stay and decent service, so that in this resort city it will be comfortable, pleasant, and will leave you with a wonderful “aftertaste” and only positive emotions.

Economy of the resort city

In the modern State of Israel, Netanya is a successful and world-famous resort, with 9 comfortable beaches and 11 hotels for vacationers. Well-equipped sports complexes, charming cafes on the seashore, and affordable prices attract not only tourists from different regions of the world, but also Israelis themselves and young people from all over the country to Netanya. Starting as a small village with an agricultural orientation, in less than 100 years this place has grown into a prestigious center with an elite and significant contribution to the Israeli economy as a whole.

According to statistics, at the very end of 2011, the population of the resort was 189,678 people. What can you say about the employment of city residents? First of all, employment is carried out in the service sector: in hotels, restaurants, security companies.

Two industrial zones of the city - old and new - provide the opportunity to find a place in production. It is on the map of Netanya in Israel that the domestic company Tempo Beer Industries, created in 1952, is located, which is the country’s most prominent brewery and is engaged in the production and sale of soft drinks and beer.

Finally, work in Netanya is offered at diamond factories, where they are mainly involved in diamond processing.

Attractions

On the Mediterranean coast, not far from the Yad LeBanim memorial - monuments to fallen Israeli soldiers, Israeli artillerymen, refugees from Slovakia and the Alexandroni Brigade - a new one arose in June 2012 in memory of the Red Army soldiers who defeated Nazism. This sculptural ensemble of international scale was opened on the initiative of the prime ministers of two states - Benjamin Netanyahu and Vladimir Putin; it became an intergovernmental project dedicated to the great Victory over Nazi Germany. Against the backdrop of a number of negative political events in today's world, the construction of the Victory Monument in Israel is a very important moment, and positive reviews of Netanya in the Russian press are now complemented not only by the realities of the wonderful resort, but also by photographs of the memorial ensemble, symbolizing the transition to light from oppressive darkness. The monument, to the opening of which Russian President V. Putin came, is now included in the contents of an hour and a half bus service around the city.

In addition to hotels, clean beaches, modern health facilities, on the map of Netanya you will see interesting museums and cultural centers. After spending at least a few days in the city, you can visit:

Center for Yemeni Folklore;

Municipal Gallery;

Museum of Nature, Archeology and Art;

Museum of religious themes “Pearl of the Tribes of Israel”

and other tourist sites.

Geographical and climatic characteristics

The geographic region where Netanya is located is known as the Valley of Sharon and extends from the east to the very highlands of Samaria in the western part. The plain is separated from the northern lands of the country by the massive Carmel mountain range, while at the same time the mountain range provides shelter from the piercing cold winds. Thus, Netanya's very location already defines it.

The Sharon Valley is part of a narrow coastal strip of the Israeli Mediterranean coast; once, according to biblical texts, it served as pasture for herds of cattle, which were supervised by the Sharonite Shitray, one of the stewards of King David. Nowadays in Israel the city of Netanya, geographically located almost in the center of Sharon, is considered not just a developed settlement, but, in fact, the capital of this valley.

Tourism object

When intending to go to a new city, every traveler will want to get acquainted with the opinions of people who have already visited those parts. What will tourist reviews about Netanya tell us? Everyone, without exception, admires the most interesting entertainment that this resort abounds in. This is where there is freedom for fans of active leisure! Riding school and beach soccer, jeep riding and fishing, sailing and golf courses are just a few of the dynamic activities available. Not a single Netanya video is complete without a picture of the iridescent narrow parachutes of hang gliders gliding along the water's edge on the beach.

Using a map of Netanya in Russian, Russian travelers, of whom there are more and more in this city every year, can easily find the Elitzur country club - the pride of the townspeople, which has: a jacuzzi, an indoor heated pool, a wet and dry sauna, an outdoor pool , bowling, sports attractions, tennis courts, jeep riding is offered and more, and more….

In your photo album taken in Israel, photos of Netanya will most likely be the brightest, reflecting the festive appearance of the city. The city administration invests a lot of money in cultural events:

History of the city of Netanya

The founding date of the city of Netanya is considered to be February 18, 1929, when immigrants from Eastern Europe founded an agricultural settlement on the territory of the modern city. The city of Netanya received its name thanks to the Zionist figure and philanthropist Nathan Strauss, who invested in the founding and development of the settlement, which later turned into a beautiful resort town.

In the 20s of the 20th century, members of the Bnei Binyamin organization, under the leadership of Oved Ben-Ami, founded a settlement on the seashore, and in 1928 bought a plot of land. Initially, the residents of the settlement were engaged in agriculture - they grew citrus fruits, but later they acquired another field of activity, namely, diamond cutting. In the 40s, the city became a large and significant center for diamond processing and sales, which had a positive impact on its development.

During wartime, ships carrying Jewish refugees fleeing the horrors of the Holocaust landed in Netanya, and in 1948 the population of the moshav exceeded 10 thousand people, which gave it the right to be called a city. A little later, the city of Netanya included nearby settlements. In the 80s, the population was replenished with numerous emigrants from Russia and the CIS countries, and currently the number of immigrants from Russia exceeds 40 thousand people. In general, the population of Netanya currently exceeds 190 thousand people.

If we talk about the beach holiday in Netanya, the beginning of its active development can be considered the 50s of the 20th century, when the city’s mild climate, picturesque landscapes and a huge number of beaches provided the city with enormous popularity among both Israelis and foreigners.

Netanya Hotels – High Level of Service

Some tourists prefer to rent for the duration of their vacation, but the majority still use the services of numerous hotels, especially since by renting you can spend much more money.

In the city you can find three, four and five-star hotels to suit every taste - from the most modest and economical to the most luxurious. For example, you can book a room in the luxurious five-star Island Suites hotel on the seafront with spacious apartments, swimming pools, a restaurant and a fitness club. The hotel is located next to Sironit beach and includes an abundance of services.

At the same time, you can choose more economical options, for example, Metropol Grand or Residence Beach - three-star hotels with excellent service. Almost all hotels are located in close proximity to the beach, so tourists have the opportunity to save money on accommodation and not waste time on the road to the beach.
