Singapore had several airports built in the 30-50s of the twentieth century. In the eastern part of the island, near the Changi military airbase, a plot of land was alienated. Part of the territory was reclaimed from the sea by land reclamation by a Japanese construction company. Thus, the area of the airport increased to thirteen square kilometers. The first terminal of Changi Airport was inaugurated with a flight from Kuala Lumpur in July 1981. At the end of this year, the results were summed up: over 6 months of operation, passenger traffic amounted to eight million, 63 thousand takeoffs and landings were made.
Development of services
Initially, it was planned to build two terminals. The second was opened a year after the first. But it soon became clear that this was not enough to make passengers at Changi Airport feel at ease.
