Excursion boat in Venice. Vaporetto in Venice. Sightseeing tour of Venice

The extravaganza of the Venetian carnival still did not leave you indifferent, and you finally decided to visit this city slowly sinking under water? Wonderful! Excursions in Venice in Russian are always relevant, fresh and interesting. However, they did not have a chance to be different, because we are talking about the city that captivated Brodsky, Chekhov and Blok! And also tens of millions of people who at different times found themselves here. What is the freedom-loving Venice ready to offer you?

If you are looking for a rich summary of facts from the series "Venice in 10 streets and faces", this tour is definitely not for you. Such Venice will certainly not be able to come to life in your mind, but for this reason it is worth going to this magical city. You will find both a walk along unfamiliar streets and a visit to popular attractions, but not at rush hour. A subtle combination of facts, impressions, legends, musical inserts.

Venice is the best interactive stage in the universe. In the course of your acquaintance with the city, you will learn why the mysterious palace "Ca Dario" was never bought, what made Verdi consider his "La Traviata" a complete fiasco, who is St. Mark, and what is meant by the oxymoron "poor rich"? All this can be learned in 2.5 hours. The cost is € 150 (1-3 people).

This tour is of an overview nature. Minimum dates - a pure kaleidoscope of exciting and vibrant urban legends. And the dive promises to be deep - you have to leave the image of a cheerful Venice and find yourself in the thick of the events of a gloomy fairy tale with a murderous palace, a carnival of masks and stories about the Countess Tarnowska, fatal in her beauty.

Dorsudoro will unfold in front of you, which has justified the reputation of the most bohemian quarter of the city for more than a century, and the Doge's Palace, the Church of della Salute will flash in its baroque perfection and the Grand Canal, through which the wooden bridge of the Academy is thrown. Not to mention all the stories of the ancient city on the water, especially for those 2.5 hours that the tour will last. But even this will be quite enough to feel the hypnotic charm of the city. The cost is € 155 (1-10 people).

Venice without a mask

The association with the Venetian carnival of masks is beaten, but still relevant. What will this tour offer you? A private walk along non-tourist trails, devoid of indicative gloss. Venice is not only a cold stone of an ideal cut, it is also its inhabitants - funny and deeply sad, scary and mysterious. Their stories are hidden behind tightly closed shutters, street altars, marble bas-reliefs and brick columns.

The program is planned to be quite rich: from the former monastery to the tiny church of San Giorgio, which is a small storeroom of the great Venetian painting. Next up is Piazza San Marco. You will be able to find out where the devil once jumped out from, and why all the tiles of the courtyard of the Madonna are gray, and one is red. The walk will take 4 hours. It will cost €150 (1-4 people).

Panoramic Venice: from B to Z

This is the best three-hour classic city tour you can find - an exciting walk through the city without having to look around nervously, trying to understand the level of trust that can be placed on the map. However, no one promises that the map will help - the streets are so old and narrow that the satellite signal simply does not reach here.

The program includes a standard overview of sights: the Doge's Palace, the Academy Bridge, the Grand Canal, the notorious Florian Cafe, the Embankment of the Incurables, especially vividly described by Brodsky, the Cathedral of St. Mark and other iconic places. During the walk, you will have the opportunity to find out what the depth of the canals is, why the Venetians are always as attentive as possible, passing by two columns at the Doge's Palace, but never between them, who is almost the only lucky man who managed to leave the Venetian prison without loss of limbs etc.

There will also be a "sweet" ending - with delicious coffee and real Venetian ice cream. Such a walk around the city will cost you 200 € (1-4 people).

Welcome to Venice

What the city breathes, what traditions it upholds, what are the main historical milestones of its development, you can learn about all this during the tour. You can truly feel the city only by learning non-trivial details that can help you get closer to understanding the spirit of the city. The guide's expected story about the founding of the republic on the water, and why Venice (despite its wealth and strategic importance) was never attacked from the outside or from the inside, will be filled with texture and color as you immerse yourself in the unhurried narrative created by atmosphere.

City symbols, courtesan quarter, holy images on the facades of houses - all of them become the characters of history. At the end of this three-hour tour, the guide will be happy to share with you information about where you can try real Venetian cuisine at prices not for tourists, but for local residents, which museums and galleries you should definitely visit, and also give useful tips on moving around city. The cost is € 180 (1-10 people).

Mystical Venice: legends and ghosts of Dorsoduro

Dorsoduro can be translated as "hard back". This is one of the six historical districts of Venice, which occupies the southern tip of the city. And it is with him, or rather with his "shadow" side that the tour promises to acquaint you. Don't worry, you won't run into the Italian mafia... Most likely. You have to find the answer to a number of rather curious questions. Which of the city's palaces is the "cheapest", and why exactly did he not have an owner?

Is there a recipe for immortality, and where can I find it? (Note: not in Prague, as you will see for yourself) The Grand Canal and its "peaceful" inhabitants - why is it not worth swimming in it without a gondola? But empty words are not enough, right? Why not go hunting for ghosts, especially since the hunt is going to be hot - after all, you are in one of the oldest cities in Europe! And here the most insidious intriguers of history will always be alive. This whole mystical adventure will take no more than two hours and will cost € 138 (1-4 people).

Venice and the islands of the Venetian lagoon

This tour will allow you to look at Venice from a different perspective. It raises a rather extensive historical and cultural layer: the fourth crusade, wars with the Turks and Genoa, Venetian Gothic, medieval Venice of the red light district and much more. Did you know what the local “socles” look like, and what does the blond beauties have to do with it, who had to make real sacrifices for the sake of their scorched curls? Does the name "infamy run" mean anything to you? If you suddenly have the desire to write a denunciation, which of the lion's mouths will you need to convey this bold paper?

You will learn about all this during the tour, which can become even more complete if you wish to visit the islands of the Venetian lagoon: San Michele (the island of the dead and concurrently the most luxurious Venetian cemetery), Burano (famous for its lace makers and fishermen who literally live in a revived fairy tale), Torcello (the cradle of Italian civilization with beautiful Byzantine frescoes and ancient temples) and others. Cost € 180 (1-6 people).

Crafts of Venice

As the name suggests, the tour focuses on visiting artisan workshops and antique boutiques. Lace, mirrors, glass - all this is habitually associated with the city of masks and gondolas. And behind the facade of these luxury goods are centuries of careful storage and cultivation of traditions and technologies. Reticella, murrina, filigran - these glassmaking techniques are still kept by Italian craftsmen. And local lace!

Craftswomen from the island of Burano still work on yarn, and then on embroidery, creating things in the same technique as the masters of the Middle Ages. But the horizon of the upcoming immersion in the world of traditional crafts is not limited to this - papier-mâché masks decorated with gilding, woodcarving and painting, making ships of all shapes and sizes - get ready for a rich eight-hour tour! Cost € 180 (1-4 people).

In order to hear the real voice of the city, you need to remove the crowd of noisy tourists and forget about such a thing as "vanity". During the daytime, this is almost impossible to achieve, and therefore warm nights remain, filled with the clatter of locked shutters, the splash of waves and the echo of footsteps on stone bridges. Once in such Venice, one can easily imagine how Vivaldi or Casanova comes around the corner. The tour will consist of two parts - walking along the central streets and traveling by water.

The second part is planned to be more intense, because it will include more architectural and historical monuments, for example, the house of Desdemona, the door where Tsar Paul I himself stayed during his mysterious visit to Venice, the Barefoot Bridge and many others. The walk will take approximately 2 hours and will cost € 168 (1-8 people).

Mysterious Doge's Palace

The Doge's Palace is rightfully considered one of the most enchanting architectural ensembles of Venice, and it is definitely worth taking the time to visit it. To get to the palace, you need to cross the Bridge of Sighs. This is where the tour begins. Gradually, you will go further and further into the intricacies of the halls where backstage games have taken place for centuries.

A special point is the acquaintance with Italian painting, mainly of the 16th century, which is presented here in a significant amount. During an hour and a half walk around the palace, you will also see secret rooms: a torture chamber and a prison. The tour usually takes the afternoon hours, as at this time the crowd of tourists mostly thins out. The cost is € 125 (1-4 people).

The unique spirit of the Republic

Venice is a highly cosmopolitan city. Almost from its very foundation, there was a place (free of charge and on a paid basis) for representatives of all races and religious denominations. The real carnival of masks! And the extravaganza of papier-mâché faces in sparkles and bright colors that attracts everyone today is nothing more than a caricature of the true spirit of the city, many-sided and contradictory.

During a two-hour walk, you can get to know Napoleon's Venice more closely - and then Venice was at the very dawn of its strength! Particular attention will be paid to the National Library, which today houses the first printed book of Venice, as well as ancient manuscripts of the Iliad. The cost is € 120 (1-6 people).

Walking tour of Venice at 15:15

More than 5 km to go. You will see both significant historical sites and typical narrow streets. The path will lie from the Barefoot Bridge to the Bridge of Sighs. They received such names not by chance. The Barefoot Bridge is located next to the train station, and it is simply impossible not to see it. According to legend, once poor people lived in this area, who were not able to buy shoes for themselves.

The Bridge of Sighs is built of white marble. Previously, convicts were led along it, and it was from here that they could see Venice for the last time. Serenade gondola ride through the canals of Venice

You can't visit Venice and not sail through its canals to the songs of a gondolier. The walk lasts about 40 minutes. It is "from the water" that you can see the city in the most unusual and beautiful perspective. It was believed that on this island the police had no right to arrest anyone. But if the glassblower decided to change his place of residence, he could be killed as a criminal. And Murano glass allegedly had a magical property - it was enough to drop poison into it - and cracks began to go along the glass.

The palace was built in the 15th century, and at first its decoration included covering individual elements with gold leaf. Expensive paints were also used - ultramarine and cinnabar. Also in architecture, something from the old palace that once stood on this site was preserved.

Of course, losing the old owners, the building did not change for the better. So, in the middle of the 19th century, the Golden House was acquired by Prince Alexander Trubetskoy and presented it to the great ballerina Maria Taglione - the very one who was the first to stand on the tips of pointe shoes. The palace began to be remodeled, they say that the luxurious lining was removed and sold on the market.

The Venetians regretted the loss. The reconstruction of the building began in 1894. The new owner, Baron Franchetti, invited architects, and they, according to old drawings, began to restore the palace. In addition, the baron amassed a large collection of paintings. A walk through legends and history

This tour is for gourmets. For those who want to hear the most interesting things about this city. The history of masterpieces of architecture, the story of the fate of those who lived in houses and palaces, acquaintance with the legends and traditions of the ancient city. They say that in the Palazzo Grassi, in the palace near the Grand Canal, a ghost lives - the spirit of a deceased girl who sometimes talks to people. On the island of Torcello is the throne of the conqueror Attila. In the house of Cardinal Cantorini, the spirit of the artist Giorgione appears (the painter killed himself because of unhappy love). And in the old building in the Dorsoduro district, the watch of a real witch is kept.

The program includes a visit to St. Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace, the Clock Tower, the most famous bridges of the city, and many other objects. Also, sightseers, together with a guide, will look into the workshop where the famous Venetian masks are made - for theatrical performances and participation in carnivals. The price of tickets varies from how many people will participate - from 180 to 220 euros. You may have to pay extra for travel by water transport.

You can not only on foot or on gondolas. The city also has public transport - unusual, but convenient. We are talking about vaporetto, passenger boats plying the canals of Venice and between the islands of the Venetian archipelago. Let's try to understand the features of this type of transport in order to use it efficiently and without overpaying.

In fact, vaporetto is the same bus or tram, only it moves on water. The principles of operation are standard: several routes with constant stops, water trams run on schedule, passengers are charged a fare, ticketless passengers are fined. In Russian, vaporetto means "steamboat" (from vapore - "steam"), but modern ships have diesel engines. The team is a captain and a sailor, the latter announces stops, moors the ship, directs passengers to the exit, monitors the safety of boarding and disembarking.

The convenience of the vaporetto lies not only in the ability to navigate the city's canals and the entire archipelago. The main thing is that the berths are located on both sides of the canal, not always connected by bridges, and the motor ships act as ferries transporting people from one bank to another.

The first vaporetto appeared in Venice in 1881 and soon gained great popularity. Over time, the number of steamships increased to several dozen. Today, ACTV (Azienda Consorzio Trasporti Venezia) is “responsible” for the operation of the vaporetto transport network. From time to time, she has to face opposition - from the very beginning they perceived the new mode of transport as a threat to their income, and from time to time they organize strikes and accuse the vaporetto of polluting water and air and causing dangerous situations: ships and boats raise waves when moving. Sometimes the protest actions of gondoliers are successful: for example, some time ago, the speed of the vaporetto was legally limited to 8 km / h.

Berths

All the piers where the vaporettos stop look the same: a white-painted landing stage with bright orange stripes.

The big black inscription is the name of the stop. Passengers enter and exit via two separate bridges. There are several zones inside the landing stage:

  1. In one, passengers are waiting for the arrival of the vessel;
  2. The second serves to disembark passengers;
  3. Through the third, boarding takes place: access is prohibited there if the vessel is not at the berth, when it is moored, when passengers are disembarking.

At each berth there is a person on duty who will answer your questions.

Be careful when choosing the direction of movement: on large berths, ships moving in different directions moor in different places, on small berths - in one place. Information signs will help you understand where you need to go.

Types of ships

ACTV uses three types of ships to transport passengers.

  1. The vaporetto itself is a squat vessel with a flat roof and deck; accommodates an average of 230 people. They operate mainly on the Grand Canal and the Cannaregio Canal. Vaporettos vary in height (bridges on some canals are very low), but in general they are similar: an enclosed saloon, an open platform with a roof, there are several seats on the bow and on the stern.
  2. Motoscafo are smaller (capacity up to 160 people), but they have better seaworthiness, so these ships serve the high water routes around Venice. They also go to the island of Murano and between small islands, where the passenger traffic is small. Motoscaphos are more like large boats, completely enclosed.
  3. Motonavi, as the name implies, are designed for crossings by sea, and not through narrow channels. They are similar to vaporetto, but much larger and more spacious (up to 600 passengers). Such ships go to the distant islands of the Laguna, for example, to the island of Burano. Some motonavi have a high deckhouse and two decks.

Routes

In total, more than 25 river tram routes pass through Venice and the islands. Many of them are circular. There are express routes, one night route, and in 2012 a sightseeing tourist route appeared; You can start moving on it every 30 minutes.

A standard ticket for one trip will cost 7.5 euros. It is valid for all routes (except 16, 19 and Alilaguna) for 75 minutes after activation (pass). During this period, you can make transfers, return back, etc.

If your plans are to stay in Venice longer, it is better to immediately purchase the so-called tourist transport cards, in other words, travel cards for several days. Then staying on the islands and moving around them will be much cheaper. The card can be purchased for 1, 2, 3 days or a week; it costs 20, 30, 40 and 60 euros, respectively, and includes travel not only on river trams, but also on ordinary buses.

  • Important: the daily ticket is valid exactly 24 hours from the moment of its first composting. For example, you punched a ticket on September 10 at 09:00, which means you can use the vaporetto until 9 am on September 11 without restrictions.

The most attractive option for the price is a 3-day ticket for 28 euros, but it is only available to children and youth from 6 to 29 years old. A prerequisite for buying such a ticket is the presence of a Rolling Venice card. It, in turn, costs 6 euros, but additional discounts are available for it in shopping centers and museums in Venice.

Children under 6 use the vaporetto free of charge. Travel is also free for wheelchair users and accompanying persons. You will have to pay 1.5 euros for the stroller itself.

Important: the above is true for all routes except 16, 19 and Alilaguna. The last boat runs in and out of it. Route 16 links directly Fusina (Fusina, camping in, on the mainland of Venice) and the Zattere promenade pier (Fondamenta delle Zattere), along route 19 ships go from San Marco to the island of Chioggia (Chioggia).

  • We recommend reading:

How and where to buy

Tickets are sold at the piers, at ACTV vending machines and ticket offices, as well as at tobacco and newsstands. A ticket can also be purchased on board (including if there is no ticket office or machine on the pier) - but only a one-time ticket, for one trip. In most cases, you can pay, not only in cash, but also by credit card.

  • To save time, we advise you to plan your stay in Venice by ordering a ticket in advance online.

After booking, you will be sent a QR and PNR code, immediately upon arrival at the Santa Maria Lucia station, you do not go to the ticket office, but to the machine on the pier, here is the point on the map. Enter your code there and get a ticket. The ticket can be activated any day. Luggage is included in the price.

Children under 6 travel free of charge.

For example, you bought a 48-hour ticket in advance and activated it on October 10 at 11:00 - it will be valid until October 12, 10:59. The overpayment for such a booking and saving time is only 3 euros.

By the way, the residents of Venice themselves pay much less for the use of river trams, but you can buy tickets at reduced prices only by presenting an appropriate document.

It is mandatory to purchase tickets. Their presence is checked regularly, the fines are very high: you will have to pay not only travel, but also an administrative penalty in the amount of 60 euros. It is allowed to carry a folded baby stroller, one piece of baggage of standard dimensions (no more than 150 cm in the sum of measurements), as well as hand luggage in the amount of two pieces (no longer than 120 cm). Anything above is paid extra.

The purchased ticket must be activated by attaching it to the validator and holding until the beep. This must be done at each berth; If you do not activate your ticket when boarding, you may be fined. You must keep your ticket until the end of the trip. It is not necessary to show the ticket to the sailor at the entrance to the ship.

Boarding is carried out only after the exit of all passengers; up to this point, access to the landing zone is strictly prohibited. You must strictly follow the instructions of the sailor. For passengers with limited mobility, special retractable platforms are provided, with which you can get on board.

The best vantage points are at the bow or stern. There are few of them, so it is better to take the river tram at the original stops, so you will have a better chance of getting the desired seat. Do not forget that only the seats in the cabin are completely closed from the wind and rain on the vaporetto. If you sit in open places, only the roof protects you from the weather, and then not always.

Toilets are not available on all vaporettos; they can be equipped with ships that go along long routes.

Vaporetto is not a tourist water bus, but a regular form of public transport, so during peak hours it is filled to the maximum with sitting and standing passengers. Keep this in mind and prepare for the exit in advance so as not to pass the desired stop.

Smoking is prohibited not only on the vaporetto, but also on the landing stage.

Keep a close eye on what is happening around, do not keep valuables and money in plain sight and in easily accessible places: in Venice, as in any popular tourist city, there are pickpockets.

An unforgettable boat trip around the islands of the Venetian lagoon with a visit to the famous Murano, Burano, Torcello will allow you to see the real Venice!

Duration

Possible with children

Have you ever dreamed of being at the helm of a ship? If you wish, we will teach you the rules of the "road" traffic of the Venetian lagoon, it is not difficult at all, and you yourself can become the captain and navigator of our ship.

Program

Murano Island known for being home to countless glass workshops that are engaged in the production of Venetian glass. You and I will witness how all these beautiful Murano glass products are born - we will visit one of the factories where the maestro will demonstrate his skills and tell you some interesting facts about the technology of making objects from this glass. After that, we will go shopping in search of something unusual and interesting, made of real Murano glass.

Burano Island- this is a small island that will literally take you to the fabulous scenery and give you the opportunity to feel all the riot of colors. The houses on this island are famous for their flowers - it seems that you are in a toy world, and all the houses around are just scenery. I will introduce you to some of the stories that explain the origin of the coloring of these houses, as well as why this island is also famous for its lace.

Torcello Island- it is possible that this is not the brightest representative of the islands of the Venetian lagoon, it does not have any peculiarities, nothing unusual is produced on it, but its importance for Venice cannot be overestimated, the history of our city began from here. Once on this island life was in full swing, but now the official population is only 10 people. We will look here for a short time to see with our own eyes the place where the "Venetian civilization" originates and what inspired Ernest Hemingway when he wrote his book "Across the River in the Shade of the Trees" here.

If you want, you can expand the excursion program and spend the whole day at sea. After the “classic” excursion program around the islands, we will be ready for free swimming in the Venetian lagoon, I suggest visiting places where you can only get on a private boat and just enjoy the beauties of the Venetian lagoon:

Island of San Francesco del Deserto(San Francesco del Deserto) - a small monastery island (4,000 cypresses and less than a dozen monks) was the first stop of St. Francis in Europe on his way back from the Holy Land in 1220, it was here that he talked to the birds. The monks will show us the chapel, the cloister and the coffin in which St. Francis often lay in order to acquire a habit, and you yourself will enjoy the smell of flowers, peace and birdsong.

Poveglia Island- one of the most mysterious and, at the same time, attractive islands of the Venetian lagoon. If you start asking Venetians about this place, many of them will prefer to talk about something else, pretending that they do not know anything interesting about this island. The story that happened here is reminiscent of the plot from the famous movie "Cursed Island" with Leonardo DiCaprio. On the island in the twentieth century there was a secret psychiatric hospital in which experiments were performed on patients, but it all ended in an accident under mysterious circumstances, after which this institution was closed. This is just the end of this island's history. They say that the bell on the tower has long been gone, but at night you can still sometimes hear its ringing.

On this boat, unfortunately, it is forbidden to enter the small and narrow canals of Old Venice.

Welcome, or Benvenuti! I navigate in Venice by stones, I can walk around the city with my eyes closed, sometimes I feel that the pigeons in San Marco Square greet me :) My name is Maxim, I have been living in Italy for the eighth year already. Graduated from the University of Venice. Traveled to 37 countries. He worked in various fields: from a courier to an art director. Now I have got a guide license and I just love to introduce people to the real Venice! I consider Italian cuisine a must for tasting, so along with ordering an excursion, you will receive my author's gastro guide to delicious places and a small author's guide with interesting places and instructions on how to get there without a queue. Almost all photos in the design of excursions were taken by me. The only guide with his own boat! For more than 5 years, I have conducted more than 1000 excursions, which is 9000+ km and 2000+ satisfied tourists :) If you do not like the tour, I am ready to return the money. Your personal guide to the world of Venice, Maxim.

Venice, the city that takes your breath away!!! A boat trip is the best end to an evening in this beautiful city! Max is a great guide! Friendly, smiling, open! We saw Venice from a different angle, visited the islands, had fun and had a good time! Thank you, Maxim! Definitely recommend the tour!!! We will arrive in Venice and again we will go with a breeze on a boat, to the music with a glass of prosecco!

We highly recommend a tour of Venice with Maxim, informative and interesting. In addition, Maxim will advise you on really good and delicious restaurants, take great photos against the backdrop of the best views, and also give recommendations on your further route around the city. Thanks a lot to our guide and Tripster, had a great day in Venice!

I really liked the unusual presentation of the material of the excursion. A very versatile guide, ready to switch to any other topic during the tour. For example, the gastronomy of Venice, architecture, the way of life of the Venetians and much more. It is impressive that Maxim, having completed the tour, continues to communicate with the client, he will always answer the question and help with advice.

On the first day of our stay in Venice, we went on an excursion with a guide Maxim. Maxim introduced us to the city and showed us beautiful views. I liked the energy of the guide, his enthusiasm and desire to make the tour as comfortable as possible for all participants. Thank you! We had a great time and got our bearings in the city a bit.

Milan → Mystical Venice: legends and ghosts of Dorsoduro September 25, 2018

We were in Venice for the first time, but we decided not to order a sightseeing tour, but a walk with Maxim in places not chosen by tourists. And we did not regret it - we saw the beautiful embankment of the Giudecca Canal, empty cozy squares where children play football, the famous gallery "Nico's", where you should definitely try ice cream ... What's nice, Maxim sent us a list of cafes and restaurants where You can have a really tasty snack and drink a cocktail. And, of course, an interesting story about the Dorsoduro area.
